Depth of Field

Depth of Field explores how stories can become experiences. This projects designs and tests the limits of secondhand experience in the classroom by using narratives, documentaries, photographs, and other means of storytelling to invite students to live through the sensory experience of another. By intentionally shifting psychological distance, Depth of Field fosters meaning-making, identity formation, and connection to place. Drawing on phenomenology and our research, we create lesson plans and activities that harness the power of story to engage imagination, cultivate empathy, and deepen understanding. Check it out here

Discovery of Place (DOPE)

KC’s research explores how undergraduate students experience place-based learning through a method he has started calling “DOPE” (Discovery of Place). His work combines qualitative methods and creative coding techniques such as mindmapping and collaborative wall-based analysis to surface patterns of reflection, identity, and spatial awareness. Grounded in themes of peace education and student’s voices, KC’s agenda is both exploratory and deeply participatory. He is particularly interested in how museum and memorial visits influence student development and critical sense-making.
